| Rainforest One is an experiment in co-operative conservation. We believe that, given the chance, a great many people would love to become protectors of the rainforest. The act of protecting a rainforest, especially one in a foreign country, can be daunting, if not entirely impossible. By working with a local Brazilian grassroots organization, Fazenda Natureza, we at Save The Rainforest For Our Children.org have been given the unique opportunity to achieve goals otherwise out-of-reach for a non-profit organization in our position.
Fazenda Natureza has purchased an initial section of rainforest along the Juruena River in the Mato Grosso region of Brazil. This section of approximately 600-acres will be the ‘proving ground’ for a socio-economic experiment that may promise to be a simple and scalable approach to rainforest protection. Mato Grosso is a perfect place to test this system, as it is being quickly and relentlessly deforested and clear-cut by ranchers and soy farmers, and without careful and effective systems put in place, there may be no way of stemming the destruction.
The Stewardship Program is the response to this crisis. Fazenda Natureza has established a land trust, and has vowed to actively protect the land under their watch. The land will also be used as a research station for a number of academic institutions with researchers in the Mato Grasso region, helping to further our knowledge of this threatened biome. But without the help of likeminded individuals and kindred souls, this will not be possible.
By sponsoring as little as one square metre of Rainforest One you will be furthering the progress of the mission. Fazenda Natureza retains legal ownership of the land, naturally, but as a steward you become the party responsible for ensuring the protection of that land. This lets you take an active role in protecting the rainforest, and ensuring a healthy, green future for our planet.
